Danny Ainge landed the big one, and it was costly, but it will be worth it.

For a full run down of why the trade makes sense read my piece here but in short, Kyrie is younger, healthier, and arguably better than Thomas. He is also taller than Thomas which could help out on defence if he can get his head around defending in the NBA. Kyrie will thrive under the tutelage of Brad Stevens, the best young coach in the NBA and flourish out from beneath LeBron’s shadow.
The trade also clears out of Boston Jae Crowder, a divisive figure amongst fans who respect his on court attitude but who have had some friction with him. Celtics fans will thank Crowder for his service and will miss his defensive ability, but this feels like the right time to part.

The Celtics have just completed one of the biggest trades in NBA history. Time will tell if it was a masterstroke or a disaster, but I’d be willing to bet that it just made the Celtics a whole lot better moving forward.
