With the playoffs just weeks away the BBL is preparing for another round of exciting games. The Champions elect Leicester Riders could secure the title with a home win over the Plymouth Raiders, in the BBC game. The Riders need just one more win to secure a richly deserved league title, and a win over the tough Devon outfit. The Raiders will need to defy the history books in order to stop Leicester winning the title as they are winless against the Midlands team since 2012.
The Bristol Flyers head to Sheffield fresh from a 4 point weekend eliminating the Cheshire Pheonix from playoff contention. A win against the Sharks would give the Flyers 30 points for the season, all but eliminating the Surrey Scorchers from contention. The Sharks will play a tough game with Rashwan Rembert especially coming off two fantastic games last weekend.
The Glasgow Rocks will host the Leeds Force hoping to kick start their run to the playoffs with a strong performance against the 11th ranked team in the country. The Rocks were soundly beaten away by the Eagles last weekend and will be hoping to bounce back with a big performance infront of their home crowd.
The Manchester Giants host the Cheshire Phoenix in the only dead rubber match of the round. The Phoenix’s slim remaining chance of making the postseason was ended as they lost both of their games against the Flyers last weekend, whereas the Giants remain rooted to the bottom of the table. Manchester won in their last meeting and will be hoping for a victory to level their year long record at 2-2. Mike DiNunno will be hoping to finish the season putting up massive offensive scores as he currently leads the league in points per game.
The redhot Worcester Wolves will host the in form London Lions. The Lions have been looking forward to this game as Zaire Taylor told me after the Newcastle win, “there’s not a team in the playoffs that we haven’t beat, except for Worcester, and we’ve still got them, so we’ve got a chance to fix that!”. The Lions will be head into the game confident as one of the inform sides in the league, and having clinched postseason play last week with a win at Leeds, scoring over 100 points in the process. The Wolves are still unbeaten since February and playing fantastic basketball, this will be an excellent game to watch.
On Saturday night the Surrey Scorchers host the Newcastle Eagles in a must win fixture. The Scorchers will have both eyes on the Flyers game tonight as a win for the Flyers will mean the Scorchers need to pull off upset wins against the Eagles, Raiders and then the Flyers to stand a chance at playing at the o2. The Eagles had a huge win last Friday to keep their league title bid alive for one more week at least. The Eagles, like everybody else, will be wanting to put in a good performance in a game sure to have playoff atmosphere to prepare for the post season.
This is another must watch weekend of British Basketball and Splitfocussports.com is the place to follow all the goings on. Our featured fixtures this weekend will be the Riders vs Raiders and on Sunday the Lions vs Riders, which will also have a specific preview live tomorrow.
